Business Card Reader concept
Today business cards are one of the most common ways for quick implementation of business contacts, exchange of information and convenient tool to share location and contacts. But caring too many business cards is not a easy job. So, why not use your Windows Phone for that.
Business Card Reader - Sample Metro Business Card
The Business Card Reader Concept application for Windows Phone offers an easy way to add a new contact to your phone: simply take a picture of a business card and save the contact. You can also keep the image of the business cards to easy visual navigation – it’s your virtual Card holder.

I'm a big fan of Metro user interface and Microsoft’s latest products, based on the new Metro style. I love Windows Phone, because of the complete new style – METRO. It’s modern and clean. It’s fast and in motion. It’s about content and typography, and it’s entirely authentic. Most of people know me by my MetroStation icons.

The text on the business card is kinda hard to read, but the idea for the concept is nice. Perhaps a smaller logo and larger text ? [Posted from the 1800PocketPC app]
Yes, you’re right – but this is because of the screenshots. I currently make and my new cards, I think to make something like the first picture.
A card reader app is a great idea. This would eliminate the use of my business card album. It would be a good idea to offer a choice of saving the information to my contacts list. It would be annoying to search through contacts that are not used often. [Posted from the 1800PocketPC app]
Hi Yanko,
Glad you brought up this topic, This is a great concept,
A business card reader app was on my mind for the last few weeks. I have been considering making one, but the biggest obstacle I have found so far is the OCR capability. Ideally I would like an app to scan the card and then create a contact for it on the phone. But so far to my knowledge there is no pure managed OCR .net libraries available. Most that I have seen require native code which means the OCR capability would need to reside on a dedicated server.
Perhaps this is why all the business card reader apps on the marketplace that I have seen so far are for pay.
Any thoughts on this. I am sure there is a lot of potential for an app like this.
HTC used to have these in the old WinMo days. I’d reckon porting one would be on their to do list.
On the other hand just simply putting a QR code on the back of a businesscard with either the information or a link to a hosted vcf would solve the issue instantly wouldn’t it?
So you know if this app is in the marketplace
nope this is just a concept we are throwing out there so intrested devs can get some inspiration to get an app like this out there in the Marketplace
Can you leverage an OCR cloud service, such as project Hawaii?

Project Hawaii sounds interesting, but right now its only available to students (I cant fathom why).
There are other OCR cloud services like WiseTrend (http://www.wisetrend.com/wisetrend_ocr_cloud.shtml). They seem reasonably priced. However this would entail that the cost of the OCR service would need to be passed to the consumers, and ideally I think an app like this should be free. And I am doubtful if ad revenue from an app would be able to cover the cost of OCR service.
Matt McCormick made a post on his blog about his attempt at this http://mbmccormick.com/2011/08/optical-character-recognition-ocr-on-windows-phone-7/ and I dont know if he has made any progress after that post.
When is app will be available [Posted from the 1800PocketPC app]

Hey, just wanted to let you know that there is an app called CamCard and it does just that but the interface is a little different. [Posted from the 1800PocketPC app]
Excellent concept. Will be welcomed by business professionals needing to carry contact lists from business cards. [Posted from the 1800PocketPC app]
