BasicGPS

BasicGPS is software application designed primarily for Geocaching, and runs on Phones and PDAs equipped with the Windows Mobile 5.0/6.0/6.1 Operating System. The software is offered to the global geocaching community free of charge. One of the main features of BasicGPS is that the application actually speaks to you, providing a range and bearing to the cache site. This is particularly useful in areas of ‘high muggle activity’. You can put the phone in your pocket, use headphones, and the voice will guide you to the cache site!

BasicGPS Features :
- Provides Spoken Directions (range and bearing) from your location to the selected cache.
- Imports cache files in GPX or LOC format from www.geocaching.com (including pocket queries)
- Realtime cache ‘Radar’ shows your location and that of the cache for quicker finds.
- Displays Distances and Altitudes in Miles/Feet or Kilometers/Meters.
- Displays Coordinates in Degrees, Minutes or Decimal Degrees format.
- Mapping via GoogleMaps: shows your location and the cache site.
- Direct Link to wap.geocaching.com for true paperless caching!
- Works with Built-in or External GPS Modules via the MS Intermediate Driver.
- Displays the cache info from GPX files – including hints.
- Very Simple to use: Just point the Compass arrow at the blue box till you reach the cache!
- Allows you to mark a cache as ‘Found’ or ‘Not Found’
- Displays Full Cache Name and ‘GC’ Code on Search Screen.
- Plays Audio Warning when no Valid GPS Fix is available.

PDA/Phone Requirements
- Phone or PDA with Windows Mobile 5.0 / 6.0 / 6.1
- Touchscreen (240×320 or 480×640 VGA resolution.)
- Microsoft Compact Framework 2.0 (free download from MS)
- Internal GPS or External (Bluetooth/Serial) GPS Module

Developers Request :
As the application is free, all that we ask in return is that you provide us with feedback on the software, together with details of any issues you may come across while using the application. We fully intend to provide regular updates, bug fixes and enhancements to the application. These will be made available (free of charge) on this site. So please help us develop and extend the functionality of BasicGPS, and you’ll get the benefits for free!
Please Send Your Feedback, Issues or Help Requests to basicgpshelpme@googlemail.com

Sorry ‘Hiking-Man’ – Azimutgps does not seems to have been designed for geocaching at all. It’s a general GPS Nav tool. – I’m sticking with BasicGPS.

Great Tool! Would it be possible to display the Destination’s LAT & LNG on the main screen along with the current LAT & LNG? I think it would help to narrow down the target point while geocaching.

Yes, this is my favourite geocaching software, although I own and use some supplemental GPS programs, etc. Azimutgps cannot touch this software, I have been able to locate 99.9% of caches with this software, great stuff and works reliably everywhere.
