App backup 'hack-a-thon' challenge
Rafael Rivera from Within Windows has set himself a 12 hour hack-athon to create an app backup tool for mango, for users that want to backup their app and game data, for use when you either swap handsets, or just keep their game data/settings safe. Rafael was inspired by the App-a-thon event which Microsoft ran at ASU for developers last Saturday.
Rafael dropped everything he was working on and will stop work at 6am MST. The homebrew app should backup marketplace installed apps and games, allowing the data to be transfered to another device. He broke the app down into several parts to make the creation a bit easier;
Must support backup of Marketplace-derived apps. (e.g. Plants vs. Zombies save state) Must use sockets for easy PCPhone communication. Fishing crap out of Isolated Storage manually is unacceptable. Must work on my Samsung Focus (v1.3) devices running Mango. Must succeed in using saved app. state on restore target.
If you want to keep upto date on his progress you can join the IRC channel on Freenode or follow @WithinRafael on Twitter

I hope it turns out great. We’re desperate for some kind of data backup functionality.
