If you looking for the number of active apps in the marketplace it’s hard to get an exact number. The official marketplace does not give any info on the number of apps / games available for Windows Phone. But thankfully there are quite a few marketplace browser sites like wp7applist.com , marketplacebrowser.com and more that offers some insight in to this data, but sadly each of them offers a different figure so there is no real telling what the actual numbers are.
Microsoft does occasionally throw out the numbers regarding the apps in the Marketplace from time to time ( usually during some show where they are presenting about Windows Phone ). If I am not mistaken Steve Ballmer does confirm the number of apps in the Marketplace as over 50,000 during CES2012
Now if we take a look at these marketplace browsers wp7applist.com tells us there are 56900 apps in the Marketplace and 6486 of them are inactive so active apps would be 50414, but lets not worry about that at the moment . Next up we have windowsphonegeek.com who claims there are 50027 apps in the Marketplace. The folks at windowsphoneapplist.com has a stats page here that says the marketplace has 59550 apps. Finally the marketplace browser website claims there are only 38841 apps in total , I am assuming this number is way off the mark.
What do you guys think ? which one of these do you guys think represent the correct ( or close to the correct ) number of apps in the windows phone marketplace ? Let us know via the comments below. As for me I think wp7applist’s bet could be close to the mark.

It’s simple. If U count total number of unique apps including all markets the number is probably 59000+. But, if U only count US market, it may be 50k. Certain markets like Singapore may indeed be 30-40k. I’m still waiting for Dance*Cam for example.
I’d ask websites who report 60K+ apps to list them all, one by one. Then we’d have an answer real quick ;) It’s highly unlikely to me that regions other than US have 4000+ unique apps.
Why do they allow some of those to be pulled entirely too? I just read on WPcentral (sorry Saijo) that PES 2011 was pulled. Why not leave it on there at least for the sake of the “app count”? What if I want the gamer points? Why not sell PES 2011 at a discount?
