ppcgeeks.com is claiming to have some info about WM7. they have not mentioned the source of their info and to me it looks like they have put together a collection of all the rumors in to one post. Here is the info from the post
-At the Mobile World Congress event on February 15th, 2010, Windows Phone 7 will be unveilved, although at this time plans are only to unveil the user interface of the new platform . Specific indepth functionality of the device will most likely not be shown.
-The User Interface is based upon codename “METRO”. It will be very similar to the Zune HD User Interface with a complete revamp of the “Start” screen. The UI is “Very Clean”, “Soulful” and “Alive”
-Unfortunately there will be no Flash support at the get go as there was not enough time to implement these features.
-Windows Phone 7 will only support application installation through service based delivery. (i.e Marketplace). Application installation via storage card will not be possible.
- No Multi-Task support. Applications will “Pause” when in the background, however will support notifications via push notifications.
-Marketplace will now support “try before you buy” as well as an API
-No NETCF backwards compatibility. This means the original rumor of no backward compatibility for applications holds to be true. That being said, there are high hopes of porting the NetCF to the newer platform easily.
-Microsoft is confident that devices will be ready by September 2010
-Full Zune Integration
-Windows Mobile Device Center will no longer be used. Zune software to take over syncing via PC.
-OEM Interfaces will not be allowed to run on the device. Say goodbye to Sense UI / SPB Mobile Shell / Point UI / Infinity, etc, etc
-Full XBOX Gaming Integration (Gamer tag, achievements, friends, avatars, merchandising, etc)
-Full support for social networking
Hang in there people we only have to wait for about a week before we can lay some of these rumors to rest. The MWC WM7 demo will be held behind closed doors so we will most likely miss the action but those who were invited to see the event could shed some light on what we could expect from WM7.

“-OEM Interfaces will not be allowed to run on the device. Say goodbye to Sense UI / SPB Mobile Shell / Point UI / Infinity, etc, etc”
Are you serious?? There is no way that WM would cut out one of there biggest manufacturers(HTC) UI's, not only that, but the ability to customize is one of the major draws to WM. To me, this sounds like another rumor put out there by someone like Apple or Android. This will never happen.
My though is that this might be the rumored Zune Phone . WM7 might not have all this restriction.. I might be wrong.. but that is what my thoughts are at this time..
As told in the other thread, if (if) WM is gonna become an iPhone (as it seems seeing these features), my next phone will be an original iPhone, not a MS clone
Makes me laugh how everyone claims anything not iPhone is an iClone
Shows how powerful Apple's advertising is. Motorola invented the first Mobile phone in 1973, Apple produced its first iPhone in 2007 some 34 years later.
Symbian has been around since late 1980s (19 years before iPhone))
WM roots go back to 1996 (11 years before iPhone)
Furthermore Apple have been sued a number of times for “poaching” technology for other manufacturers. Apple have revolutionised the Mobile world as we know it but they certainly did not invent it. If anything they cloned existing mobile technology making them the copy cats.
Also, I agree with PPCINFORMER there will be restrictions applied to Zune phone not Windows Mobile. There will no doubt be new restrictions imposed by Microsoft to curb illegally obtained software but I doubt customisation will fall away.
Besides even if Microsoft do remove customisation, how long do you think the WM community will take to provide a way? 24 hours tops
OK I dont believe what Iam reading here , as these comments are hilarious at best. Look everything in most articules you have been reading is false. The only thing true is compatibility issues might occur with some programs. Relax and wait till official news. As a developer myself with info inside, trust me windows mobile 7 will be a huge upgrade from windows mobile 6.5 , almost like a new OS. I cant give anymore info but lets just say 1) you will be happy with smoothness and lack of slowdown with added customization and 2) portible video games systems be prepared for new challenger. Thats all Iam aloowed to say peace
With respect, the only hilarious comment here mate is yours. Your choice of words, spelling, general grammar, punctuation and formatting leaves me wondering whether you are in fact who you claim to be.
A developer with inside information? I have a hard time believing that sorry.
Saijo clearly stated “they have not mentioned the source of their info and to me it looks like they have put together a collection of all the rumors in to one post”
Since little has been released to the public regarding WM7 we discuss the information available to us. If you do have inside information please share it with us. My humble guess is you know no more than the rest of us.
I welcome you to prove me wrong
I hope what your saying is true PPCInformer, one of the things that really drew me to WM was the ability to customize. I hope WM continues to embrace the developers on sites like PPCGeeks and XDA-dev, because those are the people that make our phones so much fun.
I hope these are just rumors: the no flash support, no OEM Interfaces being allowed to run, and no multitasking.
If they happen to be true then windows mobile 7 will be 1 step forward 3 giant step backwards.
honestly, why are you surprised? Look at the success of the iPhone who use similar strategies.
I insist in believing the iphone's success is thanks to it's app store and thousands and thousands of apps/games not in having such limitations.
Hey, with no multitasking, no backward support, WM 7 is surely looking useless. Hope, these are only rumors. Rather, they must be. No multitasking? What would we use then?
but the app store was successful coz all apps developed will work on all iphones. while on WM there are square screens, vga, wvga, qvga, qwvga, hvga , etc etc and then we have no unified API for gsensor ( and other things ) so apps work on HTC wont wok on LG Samsung etc
At this point its all conjecture, losing backward support is not necessarily a bad thing (think PS3). Certain technologies have to drop the old to make way for the new. I think WM6.6 will continue to support existing applications. I believe tools will be available to easily convert older apps to WM7 anyway.
Also, I don't see why Flash wont be supported, as long as we can install Skyfire or Opera (or purchase it am WM appstore) we should be just fine.
If all this holds true (especially the multitasking, no backward compatibility, and no flash bits) I'm definitely jumping ship to Android at the end of the year. If I have to start all over from scratch with my apps, why would I bother with WM7? It'll take 1-2 years for decent apps to start rolling in, whereas Android already has a growing app base. That, I'll still be able to multitask properly. I need to be able to take notes, look up words in a dictionary, and read PDF docs at the same time.
Man these rumors suck. Sounds like WM7 = iPhone clone.
I just don't understand why Microsoft would go backwards? Why would they do away with Flash and multitasking especially since its something that seperates WM and iPhone.
Just doesn't make sense to me why MS would take important features like this away unless they have a bloody good reason. They might be doing away with Flash to force WM users to use their own Silverlight?
Lets see a few days to go before we should find out. Keep the faith
According to me there will be a version of WM7 which is the next update to the current WM6.5.3 line and these devices will be having multitasking , backward compatibility, yada..yada..yada..
then we will have a version Puze ( Zune Phone ..
) if you will .. this will be much like the iPhone. Microsoft will rule this with an iron fist. Complete lock down. no external app ( unless hacked of course ).. will be having a massive inbuilt storage, no sd card.. multitouch, zune and xbox live games, and the works…
Now THAT makes sense. MS could steal sales away from Apple yet keep their core customers happy.
Here's hoping.
Agreed this way the customer can make their own mind up as to which they want. Order me 1 of each anyway
