Difference between Windows Mobile 6.5 and 6.1

Wm 6.5

Wm 6.5

Windows Mobile 6.5 is around the corner,… eer well its already leaked over @ xda but lets think about the official release. Ever wondered whats new with 6.5 from the 6.1 version that most of us use. Brandon Miniman from PocketNow.com has done a detailed comparision between both of the OS.

Some notable changes in Interface
1) Honeycomb Interface
2) Many Finger-Friendly enhancements
3) Pretty Scroll bars and soft-key menus
4) Call screen with dual sliders – one for answer, and one for ignore

Some new Apps are also thrown in
1) Internet Explorer 6 mobile
2) Skymarket – Windows Mobile App Store
3) My Phone – cloud-based syncing solution for contacts, calendar, photos, and other data
4) Outlook Live – enhanced outlook client for Windows Phone ( what are the enhancements , not so sure )

I am not that thrilled coz it reminds me of Vista , all new visual enhancements but a total FAIL coz it makes the system sluggish. So what do you guys think about WM6.5 ?

  • If you have a fairly recent device you should be able to upgrade WM6.1 to WM6.5 without much hassle

I'm afraid I don't get it. Why hexagons? It just looks unusual, unless you are a bee of course. To me it looks like they have been desperate to come up with something different, and well, they succeeded. At least the interface is replaceable by plenty of 3rd parties.

But one thing is certain, the last thing you need is an interface that slows down the phone.

I am a little concerned with the degree of enthusiasm for storing personal data on central servers when considering security. Micro$oft, Apple and Google are all jumping on this bandwagon. Are these servers really so invulnerable to attack?

However, an improvement to outlook can't be a bad thing. At least being so primitive, it can only improve, and maybe they've fixed that bug I bump into occasionally.

Some of the finger-friendly enhancements will be an obvious improvement.
I however still have another year to go before a phone replacement is in order, so I will watch and see, and next year, who knows what will be available.
