Push Gmail for Pocket PC / Smartphones
Do you make use of Windows Mobile phone’s ability to do PUSH Email? If not do u rely on ActiveSync or you pop/IMAP Client to to PULL your email every hour. We will be looking @ what the fuss is all about on Email (and contacts/calendar, in some cases) pushed to your phone. Its not as hard as it looks below Promise.

So Push Email , what is it ?
Ordinarily when you receive a mail , lets say for example on gmail it stays on the gmail server. You might have configured the mail client on the PPC to check your gmail mail server for new mail every x minutes. so technically your PPC “PULLS” the mail from gmails server. In PUSH email the gmail server notifies the PPC when ever a new mail comes in and pushes it on to the PPC when ever you get a new email. Its not technically sound what i have written there but that the basic idea, you can always jump on to wikipedia for all the hardcore info.
Google does not offer Push with Gmail yet. But all that might change when Android hits the Mobile OS Market. Back on topic how do we get Push email with Gmail till then. Enter mobipush.com , they provide free push email to gmail, yahoo, any pop3/imap supported mail server( i got it to work with my account @ godaddy.com ). Gmail works gr8 with this service , I have yahoo.co.in account and for some reason it does not work, so any of you all who tries it with yahoo.com account please do let me know if it works for you.
Its all easy to setup and u can add up to 5 eMail Accounts to get push email. Jump on to
mobipush.com click on
Free Signup
Your Name: I would suggest to put something in that refers to that mail account u are going to use, lets say Personal , Work , Blog etc
eMail Address: its straight fwd just put in your mail id eg : 1800pocketpc@gmail.com
Password: & Confirm Password: you know the drill , this password is the actual pass that you use for you gmail account
mobipush.com will automatically detect your eMail server settings. a sample of a gmail setting would be like
| Mail Server | imap.gmail.com | |
| Server Type | IMAP | |
| Username | 1800pocketpc |
Now you are presented with 2 choice , you can send a txt to your phone which will have a link to a .cab file installer that will install the settings to your phone or else you can manually enter the settings to your phone. Step-by-step guide on how to configure your device is on their site. I got the cab file to install the settings.
It will ask you to enter the pass and will also ask you if you want to receive the mail as soon as it comes, I would say YES coz thats the whole point of having PUSH email !!! never figured out why they had to ask that but any ways its time to play around with a few test email and all was working well 4 me .
To add more email account, once you are logged in click on eMail Accounts
Then on
Add a new eMail Account
There is nothing you have to do on your PPC , it will receive the pushed email from all the mail that you have properly configured.

Alternatives :
Mail2Web Live free version, they have a Paid version as well
Offers full Exchange hosting and a web interface with 1GB of storage and max attachment size of 100MB. You get emailid@mail2web.com and you can fwd your mail from gmail to this id and the mail gets pushed to your device but adds a non-removable email signature, has an unchangeable “reply to” address, and includes ads in the web interface. It has sync option with email, calendar, tasks, contacts.
emoze free
Offers full Exchange hosting ie syncs email, calendar, tasks, contacts but adds non-removable email signature and requires a desktop application to always be running, and also requires a program on your mobile device.

I think that a push email service from MSN iz quite enough for every user. You can add up to 5 emails to send and receive mails from one account. For example, on GMAIL you can set forwarding of message to a msn mail, with saving messages on your gmail account at a same time. That way you receive your mail directly to your mobile. In to: field is your gmail adress. The only problem is that all your mails arrive on one account on your mobile but i think that if you create folders and add filters on your msn you can receive all your mails in sub-folders sorted by the adress from which they came.
